August is the beginning of the club year and when I assume the responsibilities as the new SBCC president. I feel that I have a challenge in matching our last president, Harry Korn. I would like to thank Harry for his work in running the club. He has left me with a well organized routine for running the club and a board that works well together to make our events happen. I would also like to thank the returning board members for continuing to support the club for another year and Phyllis Appel.
Last year we had a variety of events and activities that helped members enjoy photography and develop new skills. I hope we can continue all of last year’s activities and possibly add new ones. These activities include:
Monthly evaluations of prints or digital photographs by local experts
Presentations on techniques for several photographic specialties and topics related to photography
The coffee klatch meets every Wednesday for conversation on a variety of topics, most related to photography or club events
Day trips to local areas of photographic interest
Multi-day trips have taken us to the Sierras, Anza Borrego, and other areas.
The scavenger hunt has given us a fun and relaxed competition that everyone can enoy
An exhibition of our photo’s at El Camino College
And every month the SBCC Newsletter.
I won’t go into identifying the board members responsible for each event here, but I wish to thank them all for their contributions. These events take time and effort to organize and I appreciate what the board does to make them happen. We can use more support to make these activities run smoothly, so if you are interested in helping please let me or a board member know. And if you have an idea for a new activity or event, please come to a board meeting to propose it. Last year was a heck of a lot of fun so let’s see if we can do even better this year.
